Grounds

We cut lawns for homeowners, landlords, and commercial sites across Darlington and the North East, from a single overdue cut to a full seasonal round.

A lawn left uncut for a few weeks in the middle of summer turns into a much bigger job than a quick weekly mow would ever be, long, tangled grass that needs cutting in stages, arisings that take longer to clear, and a lawn that takes weeks to recover its colour and even growth. Keeping on top of it, whether that's every visit or just the odd one-off when things have got away from you, is always the easier option in the long run.

01

One-Off Cuts

Coming back from holiday to an overgrown lawn, taking on a property that hasn't been looked after, or just needing it sorted before a get-together or a house move, a one-off cut is one of our most common calls. Very long or tangled grass sometimes needs cutting in more than one pass to avoid scalping the lawn or clogging the mower, so don't be surprised if we take it back gradually over a couple of cuts rather than one aggressive pass, it's better for the lawn's recovery in the long run.

02

Regular Seasonal Cutting Rounds

Most lawns need cutting weekly to fortnightly through the main growing season, roughly March through October in the North East, tapering off as growth slows into autumn and stopping altogether over winter when grass isn't actively growing. A regular round takes the thinking out of it entirely, we turn up on schedule, cut, and clear, and you don't need to chase anything or worry about it getting away from you again.

Commercial sites and landlords managing multiple properties often find a scheduled round the most straightforward way to keep grounds looking consistently presentable without having to book each visit individually.

03

Cutting Height and Lawn Health

Cutting too short, especially in dry spells, stresses grass and encourages weeds and moss to move in where the grass itself has thinned out. We adjust cutting height through the season, generally leaving a bit more length during hot, dry periods and cutting closer during peak spring growth, rather than cutting to a single fixed height regardless of conditions.

04

Domestic and Commercial

We cut lawns for private gardens of every size, as well as for landlords managing multiple rental properties and businesses with grounds to maintain. Commercial and multi-site work is usually the most straightforward to schedule as a recurring round, since it removes the need to book each visit separately and keeps grounds consistently presentable without anyone having to think about it.

05

What We Bring

Domestic lawns are typically cut with a rotary or cylinder mower depending on the finish you're after, cylinder cuts giving the classic striped finish often preferred for more formal lawns, rotary better suited to rougher grass or larger areas where speed matters more than a precise finish. Larger commercial areas are cut with ride-on equipment where access allows, which lets us get through significant ground efficiently without compromising on quality.

06

Edging and Finishing

A cut lawn with untidy edges along paths, borders, or driveways rarely looks properly finished, so we edge as part of a standard cut where it's included in the job, trimming back growth that's crept over hard surfaces and keeping a crisp line along borders. It's a small detail that makes a real difference to how tidy a garden looks overall.

Coverage Across the North East

Alongside Darlington, we cut lawns regularly across Durham, Stockton-on-Tees, Middlesbrough, Newton Aycliffe, Bishop Auckland, Northallerton, Hartlepool, Sedgefield, Barnard Castle, Richmond, and Yarm, for both domestic and commercial customers.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should my lawn be cut?

Weekly to fortnightly through spring and summer is typical for most gardens, tailing off to monthly or stopping altogether over winter. We can advise on a schedule that suits your lawn and how quickly it grows.

My lawn is really overgrown, can you still cut it?

Yes, though it may take more than one pass to bring it back down safely without scalping the grass or overloading the mower. We'll explain the approach when we take a look.

Do you take the cuttings away?

Yes, as standard, though for regular customers we're happy to leave clippings if you'd prefer them mulched back into the lawn instead.

Can you set up a regular schedule for a rental property or commercial site?

Yes, this is one of the most common arrangements we set up, particularly for landlords and businesses who want grounds kept consistently tidy without managing it themselves.

Do you cut lawns over winter?

Growth largely stops over winter, so regular rounds typically pause during the coldest months and pick back up as growth resumes in spring, though we're happy to do an occasional tidy-up cut if conditions allow.

Can you combine lawn cutting with treatments like feeding or weed control?

Yes, many customers have both set up together, a regular cutting round alongside seasonal treatments, see our Lawn Treatments page for the treatment side of things specifically.

Is a cut-and-collect service better than mulching clippings back in?

Collecting keeps the lawn looking cleaner immediately and avoids a build-up of clippings on the surface, particularly useful during heavy spring growth. Mulching returns some nutrients to the soil but works best on a lawn already being cut regularly, rather than one recovering from being overgrown. We can do either depending on your preference and the state of the lawn.
