Grounds

We provide green waste removal and skip hire for homeowners and businesses across Darlington and the North East, usually alongside our other tree and grounds work but also as a standalone service if that's all you need.

Every garden job produces waste, and dealing with it properly, not just piling it up and hoping for the best, is part of doing the job right. Whether it's arisings from a tree removal, a full garden clearance, or you simply need a skip on site for a bigger project, we can sort the waste side of things so you don't have to.

01

Green Waste Removal

Branches, hedge cuttings, grass arisings, leaves, and general garden waste all need to go somewhere once a job's done, and simply leaving it in bags at the kerb isn't always practical, particularly for larger volumes. We remove green waste as standard on every job we do, and can also collect and remove waste from work you've done yourself, if you've had a go at a hedge or a clearance and just need it taken away properly.

02

Skip Hire

For bigger jobs, a full garden clearance, a larger tree removal, or general grounds work generating significant waste, a skip on site can be the more practical option, letting waste build up over the course of a job rather than needing constant separate removal trips. We can advise on the right size for what you're planning and arrange collection once it's full.

03

Waste, Handled Properly

Anyone transporting waste as part of their business, garden waste included, is legally required to be registered with the Environment Agency as a waste carrier. It's a straightforward thing to check, and it's worth asking any tradesperson handling your waste to confirm their registration, since responsibility for waste doesn't disappear entirely once it leaves your property if it later turns out to have been handled illegally. Ask us for our registration details if you'd like to check, we're happy to provide them.

04

Larger Clearances and Land Work

Bigger clearance jobs, scrub, brambles, or larger plots, generate significantly more waste than a typical domestic garden, and we plan for this at the quote stage so there's no surprise cost once the job is under way, see our Site & Land Clearance page for more on larger-scale work. Where it makes sense, cleared vegetation can be chipped and left on site as mulch rather than removed entirely, which can reduce both cost and the volume that needs taking away.

05

Sizing a Skip Correctly

Getting the size right matters more than most people expect, too small and you're paying for a second collection, too large and you're paying for capacity you didn't need. As a rough guide, a mini skip suits a small garden tidy-up, a midi or builder's skip covers most full garden clearances, and larger skips are generally reserved for bigger clearance or land work. We can advise on sizing based on what you're actually clearing rather than leaving you to guess.

06

Timing Collection

For jobs where waste builds up over more than a single day, a skip left on site for the duration means we're not making repeated trips to remove material as we go, which keeps things moving more efficiently. Once the job's done or the skip's full, whichever comes first, we arrange collection promptly rather than leaving it sitting on your driveway longer than it needs to be.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a licence to have a skip on my driveway?

No, skips placed entirely on private land don't need a permit. A skip placed on a public road does need a council permit, which your skip provider should arrange as part of the hire.

What can and can't go in a garden waste skip?

Green waste skips are generally for organic garden material, branches, hedge cuttings, soil, and similar. Mixing in other waste types, particularly anything hazardous, can affect how the skip is processed and disposed of, so it's best to keep it to genuine garden waste unless agreed otherwise.

Can you remove waste from a job I've done myself?

Yes, this is a common request, whether that's a hedge you've cut back yourself or a general garden tidy where you'd rather not deal with the disposal side.

How do I know a waste carrier is properly registered?

You can check any waste carrier's registration on the Environment Agency's public register, and any legitimate operator should be able to give you their registration details on request without any fuss.

Is skip hire or direct waste removal better for my job?

It depends on the scale and timeline. A skip suits ongoing work generating waste over several days, while direct removal is usually simpler and more cost-effective for a single visit or a one-off job.

Can I put general household rubbish in a garden waste skip?

No, it's best kept to genuine garden and green waste, mixing in other waste types can affect how it's processed and disposed of correctly.

How quickly can a skip be delivered?

Usually within a few days depending on size and current demand, and we'll always confirm a delivery date before booking is finalised.

Whether you need waste taking away as part of a job we're already doing for you, or you're after a skip for something bigger, get in touch and we'll sort out what makes sense.
