Hard Landscaping & Other

We clear gutters for homes and businesses across Darlington and the North East.

Blocked gutters cause more damage than most people realise until it's already happened, water overflowing down brickwork, damp patches appearing inside where it's been forcing its way in around fascias, or a downpipe that's been backing up for so long the blockage has become genuinely solid. Clearing gutters before it gets to that point is one of those small, regular jobs that saves a lot of hassle and expense further down the line.

01

What Blocks a Gutter

Leaves are the most obvious culprit, particularly on properties near mature trees, but moss, general grit and debris, and even small plants that have taken root in accumulated organic matter all contribute over time. Once a gutter's partially blocked, it holds standing water that can freeze in winter, adding weight and stress to the guttering and brackets, or simply overflow in heavy rain rather than draining away as it should.

02

Why It Matters Beyond the Gutter Itself

Overflowing gutters send water running down external walls rather than through the downpipe and away from the building, which over time can lead to damp problems, staining, and in some cases water finding its way into the property itself around windows, doors, or poorly sealed brickwork. Standing water and organic debris sitting in a gutter for extended periods can also cause the guttering itself to corrode or the brackets holding it up to weaken, meaning a blocked gutter left long enough can turn into a repair job rather than just a cleaning one.

03

How Often Gutters Need Clearing

This depends heavily on what's nearby. Properties near mature trees, particularly deciduous species that drop a lot of leaves in autumn, often need clearing at least once a year, sometimes twice, once after autumn leaf fall and again in spring to catch anything missed or blown in over winter. Properties without significant nearby trees can often get away with less frequent attention, though it's still worth an occasional check rather than assuming it's never needed.

04

What We Check While We're Up There

While clearing gutters, we're also in a good position to spot other issues, loose or sagging sections, damaged joints, downpipes that are blocked separately from the main gutter run, or fascias and soffits showing early signs of damage from water that's been overflowing for a while. We'll flag anything we notice rather than just clearing the debris and moving on, since catching a small repair early is a lot cheaper than dealing with the consequences of it being ignored.

05

Height and Access

Gutter cleaning on a standard two-storey property is a routine job for a properly equipped team, but taller buildings, awkward rooflines, or restricted access can affect what equipment's needed and how the job's approached. Mention anything unusual about the property when you get in touch so we can plan for it properly.

06

Commercial and Multi-Property Work

Landlords and businesses managing several properties often find it easiest to set gutter clearing up as an annual round across all of them, timed to catch autumn leaf fall, rather than booking each property separately as problems arise. We can arrange this alongside any other grounds work already being carried out at the same sites.

Coverage Across the North East

We clear gutters across Darlington and into Durham, Stockton-on-Tees, Middlesbrough, Newton Aycliffe, Bishop Auckland, Northallerton, Hartlepool, Sedgefield, Barnard Castle, Richmond, and Yarm.

07

Gutter Guards and Prevention

For properties with persistent leaf problems from nearby trees, gutter guards or mesh systems can reduce how often clearing is needed, though they're not entirely maintenance-free and still benefit from an occasional check. We can advise on whether this is worth considering for a particular property based on what's causing the blockages in the first place.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should gutters be cleaned?

At least once a year for most properties, and closer to twice a year if there are mature trees nearby dropping a significant amount of leaves.

Will you check for damage while cleaning?

Yes, we'll flag anything we notice, loose sections, damaged joints, or signs of water damage nearby, as part of the visit.

Can gutter cleaning be combined with other jobs?

Yes, it's a common add-on to other work we're already doing at a property, tree work, hedge cutting, or jet washing, since access equipment is often already in use.

What are the signs my gutters need clearing?

Visible overflow during rain, plant growth in the gutter itself, staining on walls below the gutter line, or damp patches appearing inside near the roofline are all signs worth getting checked.

Do you clear the downpipes as well as the main gutter?

Yes, a blocked downpipe can cause the same overflow problems even if the main gutter run is clear, so we check and clear both as part of the job.

Is gutter cleaning dangerous to do myself?

Working at height on a ladder carries genuine risk, particularly on an unfamiliar or uneven roofline, which is why most people prefer to have it done properly rather than attempting it themselves.

Do you offer a fixed annual gutter clearing arrangement?

Yes, many customers prefer this so it's simply dealt with each year without having to remember to book it themselves.

Get in touch and we'll give you a fixed price for clearing your gutters, or set up a regular annual visit so it's one less thing to think about.
