Hard Landscaping & Other

We offer landscaping and garden design consultation for homes across Darlington and the North East, alongside the practical grounds work to bring a plan to life.

Sometimes a garden doesn't need routine maintenance so much as a proper rethink, a layout that's never quite worked, borders in the wrong place for how the garden's actually used, or simply a space that's grown up piecemeal over the years without any real plan behind it. Before diving into the practical work, it's worth stepping back and working out what you actually want the space to do.

01

What a Consultation Covers

We visit and talk through how you use the garden, or want to use it, family space, somewhere low-maintenance, a space for entertaining, room for growing your own, and look at the practical realities of the site, aspect, drainage, existing planting worth keeping, and any structural features already in place. From there we can advise on layout, planting choices suited to your soil and light conditions, and a sensible order to tackle the work in if it's a bigger project.

02

Basic Landscaping Work

This covers practical changes to a garden's structure and layout, reshaping or resizing borders, levelling or regrading areas of uneven ground, laying new turf or planting areas, and general groundwork to support a new layout. It's the practical follow-through from a design conversation, turning a plan into an actual finished space rather than leaving it as an idea.

03

Working with What's Already There

Not every garden needs starting from scratch. Often the best approach keeps established trees, mature shrubs, or existing hard landscaping that's still sound, and works the new plan around them rather than clearing everything and beginning again, which is usually both more cost-effective and gives a more settled, established look from day one rather than everything looking newly planted at once.

04

Phased Projects

Bigger changes don't need to happen all in one go, and for many gardens a phased approach, tackling one area at a time over a season or two, is more manageable both for budget and for keeping some of the garden usable while work is under way elsewhere. We can plan a project in stages if that suits you better than one larger single job.

05

Small Changes That Make a Big Difference

Not every consultation ends in a large project. Sometimes the most useful outcome is a handful of targeted changes, repositioning a border, removing a plant that was never going to thrive in its spot, or adjusting a path line so the garden actually flows the way it's used day to day. We're just as happy advising on smaller, practical adjustments as we are planning a full redesign.

Coverage Across the North East

We offer garden design consultation and landscaping across Darlington and into Durham, Stockton-on-Tees, Middlesbrough, Newton Aycliffe, Bishop Auckland, Northallerton, Hartlepool, Sedgefield, Barnard Castle, Richmond, and Yarm.

06

Low-Maintenance Design

For households who want a garden that looks good without demanding constant upkeep, design choices matter as much as any ongoing maintenance schedule, planting selected for the actual conditions rather than fighting them, groundcover instead of high-maintenance borders where appropriate, and hard landscaping that reduces the amount of grass or bedding needing regular attention. We factor this into a consultation if low maintenance is a priority for you.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a full design before any work starts?

Not necessarily, for smaller changes a conversation and a rough plan is often enough. A more involved layout or planting scheme benefits from a proper look at the site first though, so we can advise honestly on what level of planning your project actually needs.

Can you work around trees or planting I want to keep?

Yes, this is very often the starting point for a consultation, working out what's worth keeping and building a plan around it rather than assuming everything needs to go.

Is a garden consultation chargeable?

An initial visit to discuss your garden and give you a broad steer is free and without obligation, more detailed design input for a larger project may carry a cost depending on the scope, which we'll always agree with you upfront.

Can you help with planting choices for a shaded or difficult garden?

Yes, matching planting to the actual conditions of a garden, light, soil, drainage, is a core part of what we advise on, since the wrong choice for the conditions is one of the most common reasons new planting struggles.

Do you carry out the landscaping work yourselves once a plan's agreed?

Yes, we can carry through from consultation to the practical groundwork, turfing, planting, and border work needed to bring the plan to life.

How long does a garden design project typically take from consultation to finished result?

It varies hugely depending on scope, from a single visit for smaller adjustments to a project spread across several months for a full redesign carried out in phases.

Can you advise on planting for wildlife value alongside the design itself?

Yes, if attracting wildlife matters to you, we can factor species choice and planting structure toward that alongside the practical layout of the space.

If your garden needs more than routine maintenance, get in touch and we'll arrange a visit to talk through what you're hoping to achieve.
